Oregon Grappling Arts Kids’ BJJ
OGA offers fun and challenging youth classes in a highly-structured environment where every student is recognized and appreciated for their contributions to our team. Kids of all abilities receive personalized instruction, whether they are preparing for competition or simply looking for a place to make friends and exercise. In addition to teaching teamwork, inclusion, and discipline, we also emphasize the importance of technical skill development in our youth program. Kids learn high-percentage, modern jiu jitsu techniques in every class, all of which are taught by accomplished black belts with years of experience working with children.
Oregon Grappling Arts offers kids’ classes for three age groups:
Kids 3-4: In our weekly ages 3-4 class, students learn and implement basic jiu jitsu concepts and practice fundamental movements. Emphasis is placed on helping students develop body awareness and coordination, follow directions, and get comfortable practicing a contact sport. Classes consist of warm-up activities, jiu-jitsu related games, and closely supervised jiu jitsu drills. PROSPECTIVE AGES 3-4 MEMBERS RECEIVE ONE FREE TRIAL CLASS. OUR AGES 3-4 CLASSES HAVE MET FULL CAPACITY. WE ENCOURAGE INTERESTED PARENTS/STUDENTS TO REACH OUT TO US ABOUT A SPOT ON OUR WAITING LIST (effective November 2024).
Kids 5-7: In our ages 5-7 classes, students learn fundamental movements and basic techniques in a structured, fun environment. Classes consist of structured warm-ups, technical instruction, drilling, live sparring, and jiu jitsu-related games.
Kids 8+: In our age 8+ classes, students spend more time practicing jiu jitsu technique and live sparring. We help new students develop strong fundamentals. Advanced students learn more complex concepts and techniques, and are encouraged to take a more disciplined approach to training.

Our highly structured group classes may help your child develop important skills and attributes including:
Physical fitness and coordination - By practicing techniques and participating in live sparring, students develop balance, coordination, strength and endurance.
Mental fortitude - Jiu Jitsu is a physically-demanding, close-contact sport. Training teaches kids to persevere and patiently work through tough situations.
Respect - At OGA we place a strong emphasis on teamwork. Kids are taught to treat their fellow teammates and instructors with kindness and respect.
Discipline - Becoming a skilled grappler takes years of dedicated practice. Students learn the importance of hard work and how to set and accomplish goals. In addition, our highly structured class format provides students with clear rules and expectations so that all team members can contribute to a safe and productive training environment.
Focus and attention - Daily life is filled with countless distractions. In our program, we emphasize the importance of being mindful during class so that students get the most out of their practice.
Social skills - One of the most valuable aspects of training is the friendships that children make at the gym. In addition to spending time together on the mats, students have the opportunity to attend team social activities, such as parties and barbeques.
Confidence - Learning real-world self-defense skills, interacting with other students in a large class setting, and pushing through physical challenges will help your child cultivate self-confidence.
