Hannah started training at a small gym in California in 2012. After a few years of training, she chose to prioritize her future as a jiu jitsu competitor and instructor. In 2015, she left her full-time job to become a youth jiu jitsu instructor at a gym in Portland, at the same time taking a part-time job at a local bookstore. After seven years of training, Hannah received her black belt in 2019.
Hannah is one of the top nogi competitors in the Pacific Northwest. She was previously ranked by Flograppling as the #4 female nogi grappler in the world in her weight class (135 lbs). Hannah is an IBJJF Nogi World Silver Medalist at Black Belt Adult, an IBJJF Nogi World Champion at Brown Belt Adult, a Nogi American National Champion at Black Belt Adult, and an ADCC West Coast Trials Bronze Medalist. She is also a SubSpectrum 135-lb Women’s Pro Champion and a Midwest Finishers Women’s 135-lb Pro Champion.
Hannah has over seven years of experience teaching youth and adult jiu jitsu classes. Her experience also includes training youth and adult students for competitions and building jiu jitsu programs from the ground up. During her time as an instructor in Portland, Hannah created and is currently the head instructor of one of the strongest women’s jiu jitsu teams in the Pacific Northwest. She takes pride in furthering women’s jiu jitsu in Portland and is dedicated to building and maintaining a strong women’s presence at OGA. Hannah also loves helping kids and teens start their jiu jitsu journey. As a head youth instructor, she was able to grow a program for 5-7 year olds from just a handful of kids to over forty students. Hannah has been complimented for her ability to provide structured and safe youth classes while simultaneously ensuring that everyone is developing solid jiu jitsu skills and having fun.
Hannah views herself as a lifelong student of jiu jitsu, and is ever trying to grow her technical knowledge of the sport. She values learning modern jiu jitsu techniques so that she can become both a better grappler and a better instructor. Hannah is deeply invested in helping her students get better at jiu jitsu and working with them to achieve their training goals.
Hannah graduated magna cum laude from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2014. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies, with a second major in French, from King’s College in Pennsylvania, where she graduated valedictorian. When she is not training, Hannah enjoys reading and learning to cook new foods.
